Myrtle Beach, SC - The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions (1-2, 0-0 PSUAC) were upended by the Milligan College Lady Buffaloes (Johnson City, TN) with a score of 8-0 in the second day of play in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC. This is Beaver's second loss to Milligan College in as many days.
The Lady Lions started off strong defensively as they stranded two Lady Buffs on second and third base as starter Korey Freyermuth (Perry Traditional Academy/Pittsburgh, PA) struck out two batters in the first frame.
Beaver once again had a quiet game versus Milligan pitching as they had just one hit. Freshman Myranda Raymond (Brashear High School/Pittsburgh, PA) slapped a single to right centerfield in the top of the second inning. However, Milligan answered in the second by scoring three unearned runs on three hits, then added another unearned run in the third to make it 4-0.
Beaver had only one more baserunner as junior Jamie Karpinski (Quigley Catholic High School/Beaver, PA) reached on a walk in the fifth inning.
Milligan College blew the game open in the fifth inning by scoring four earned runs and ending the game, 8-0.
In the loss, Freyermuth (0-1, 1 save) allowed four runs on ten hits and struck out five Lady Buffs.
The Lady Lions will face Wentworth Institute of Technology (Boston, MA) at 1:30 p.m. as they look to rebound and get back to the .500 mark.
