Lady Lions remain undefeated; Roll Greater Allegheny

The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions upped its winning streak to 16-games, including a perfect 14-0 mark in PSUAC play, as it swept a doubleheader against Penn State Greater Allegheny (McKeesport, PA) by scores of 15-0 and 21-0.
In the first game, Beaver made quick work of Greater Allegheny as the Lions scored 15 runs in just three innings of play to invoke the mercy rule. Freshman Lauren Pier (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA) went 2-2, with three RBI's, three runs scored and a stolen base. Pier also connected on her first collegiate career home run. In addition, sophomore Ashley Watkins (Seneca Valley/Cranberry Township, PA) went 2-2, including a double, with an RBI, three runs scored and a walk, while junior Jamie Karpinski had a game-high five RBI's, went 2-2, with two doubles and a run scored.
Beaver scored 15 runs on 15 RBI's, pounded out 11 hits, four of which were the extra base variety. On the mound, starter Kori Freyermuth (Perry Traditional Academy/Pittsburgh, PA) pitched two innings of no run, one hit ball, while striking out five. Watkins came in the 3rd inning and allowed no runs although she allowed one hit and walked two. With the win, Freyermuth is now 6-3 on the season.
Game two, saw more of the same as Beaver slugged 17 hits (five extra base hits) and plated 21 runs, as they cruised to a 21-0 win. Lindsey Scialdone (Ellwood City/Ellwood City, PA) went 4-4, including two doubles, six RBI, three runs scored and a walk. Sophomore Jocelyn Wensel (St. Mary's/Force, PA) went 3-3, with an double, three runs scored and six put outs behind the plate.
Sophomore Alyssa Carver (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA) earned the win (9-1) with a four inning, three hit performance. Carver allowed no walks and struck out six.
Beaver will attempt to complete an undefeated regular season on Saturday, April 23rd, 2011 at 1 p.m. as they host Penn College. Students are reminded that there is a T-shirt giveaway for those who attend. Supplies are limited. This game also marks the final home game for senior Kayla Chambers (South Side Beaver/Hookstown, PA), who will be honored prior to the first pitch.
