Beaver Wins Conference Opener

Monaca, PA - The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions won both games of its conference opener, defeating Penn State Schuylkill 6-1, and 19-1.
In the first game, Beaver was ahead 2-1 in the 5th inning, and pulled away with the win after scoring 4 more runs in the bottom of the 6th.
Sophomore Jamie Karpinski (Quigley Catholic High School/Baden, PA.) hit a home run for Beaver, bringing in 3 RBI's. The winning pitcher was Penn State Beaver freshmen Kori Freyermuth (Perry Traditional Academy/Pittsburgh, PA), who pitched 7 innings, with 6 strikeouts and 1 earned run.
The second game ended in three innings, when Beaver scored 11 runs in the first inning and 8 more in the second, while only allowing Schuylkill to score one run in the first.
At bat, Sophomore Alysia Policaro (Beaver Falls High School/Beaver Falls, PA) had 2 hits and 3 RBI's. Freshman Alyssa Carver (New Brighton High School/New Brighton, PA) also had 2 hits for the Lady Lions. The winning pitcher was Senior Sam Neely (Northgate High School/Pittsburgh, PA), who pitched all three innings and had 4 strike outs.
Beaver is now 2-0 in the PSUAC (11-14 overall) and hosts Penn State Greater Allegheny tomorrow, April 11, at noon.
