Lady Lions Split with Lady Warriors
Ellwood City, PA - On Monday, April 5, the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions softball team split a doubleheader with the Lady Warriors of Rochester College (Rochester Hills, MI), winning the first game 2-1, and losing the second 11-3.
Game one was tied 1-1 at the top of the second inning, but when Beaver freshman Chelsea Barnes (New Brighton High School, New Brighton, PA) made it home in the third inning, Beaver was able to maintain its 2-1 advantage to take the win.
Junior Kayla Chambers (South Side High School, Hookstown, PA) was the winning pitcher. Chambers pitched seven innings with five strike-outs, one earned run, and one BB.
In the second game, Rochester College jumped ahead 5-0 after the first three innings. Two runs by the Lady Lions in the fourth inning brought the team back into the game, but at the top of the sixth, the Lady Warriors scored six runs for the win.
Barnes batted a perfect 3-3. Freshman Lynsey Szymarek (McKeesport High School, Pittsburgh, PA) batted 1-3, had three assists, and one RBI.
Beaver is 7-14 overall. On Thursday, April 8, the Lady Lions travel to take on the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva College (Beaver Falls, PA) at 3:00 p.m.
