Lady Lions Top New Kensington

Monaca, PA - The Penn State Beaver softball team pushed to a perfect 6-0 conference record after defeating Penn State New Kensington in a PSUAC double-header.
Beaver won the first game in 5 innings by the score of 12-1. Sophomore Lindsey Scialdone (Lincoln High School/Ellwood City, PA) and Freshman Ashley Watkins (Seneca Valley High School/Cranberry Twp., PA) each had 3 RBI's for Beaver, and Freshmen Kori Freyermuth batted 3-3 and had two runs.
Sophomore Kayla Chambers (South Side High School/Hookstown, PA) was the winning pitcher, with 8 strikeouts and only 1 earned run in 5 innings.
In the second game, New Kensington got on the scoreboard first, scoring 2 runs in the second inning and another in the third. However, Beaver came back with three runs of its own in the bottom of the third.
Tied at 3's, New Kensington scored 2 more times in the fourth, but Beaver scored 3 in the bottom of the 6th when Freshman Chelsea Barnes (New Brighton High School/New Brighton, PA) hit a 2 run double, and then scored a run courtesy of Scialdone's RBI.
The team is now 6-0 in its conference and 15-14 overall. Next, Beaver travels to Penn College on Saturday, April 17 for a 2 p.m. PSUAC competition.
