Beaver Defeats Greater Allegheny

Monaca, PA - The Penn State Beaver softball team earned its sixth win in three days, defeating Penn State Greater Allegheny in a PSUAC double-header.
In the first game, Beaver shut out Greater Allegheny, taking an 8-0 win. Sophomore Lindsey Scialdone (Lincoln High School/Ellwood City, PA) batted a perfect 3-3 in the victory, and Sophomore Katie Landis went 1-2, including a homer that brought in three runs. Beaver's junior Kayla Chambers (South Side High School/Hookstown, PA) was the winning pitcher throwing five innings, giving up two hits and striking out five.
In the second game, Beaver was ahead 5-1 in the third inning, and shut Greater Allegheny down to eventually take a 9-1 win. Freshman Kori Freyermuth (Perry Traditional Academy/Pittsburgh, PA) had 2 RBI's, and Freshman Jocelyn Wensel (St. Mary's High School/Force, PA) went 1-2 and had 2 runs. The winning pitcher was Beaver freshman Alyssa Carver (New Brighton High School/New Brighton, PA), who pitched 5 innings, stiking out 5 batters and giving up no earned runs. In the first inning, Greater Allegheny would put runners on first and second, when Beaver would turn an amazing triple play to end the rally. The play went 1 (Carver) - 5 (Freyermuth) - 3 (Scialdone) - 4 (Policaro).
The Lady Lions are now 4-0 in conference and 13-14 overall. On Tuesday, April 13, the team hosts Penn State New Kensington at 2 p.m.
