Lady Lions Split Doubleheader with Geneva

Monaca, PA - On Wednesday, March 24 the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions softball team split a doubleheader with the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva College (Beaver Falls, PA) when they lost the first game, 8-0, but won the second, 6-3.
In game one, Geneva came out hot at the bat, hitting two home runs that accounted for five of the team's eight runs. Beaver made contact on several pitches, but couldn't get on the scoreboard.
In the second game, the Lady Lions came on strong with one run in the first inning and two more in the second when freshman Ashley Watkins (Seneca Valley High School, Harmony, PA) and junior Kayla Chambers (South Side High School, Hookstown, PA) each had RBIs that brought Beaver up to 3-0.
In the third inning, Watkins drilled the ball into left-center field, earning her first career home run and bringing in freshman Lynsey Szymarek (McKeesport High School, Pittsburgh, PA) for a 5-2 Beaver advantage.
In the win, Szymarek went 2-2 at bat, with two doubles, one RBI, and three assists. The winning pitcher was freshman Alyssa Carver (New Brighton High School, New Brighton, PA) who pitched four innings for Beaver.
With the split, the Lady Lions move to 3-8 (0-0). The team will travel to Point Park University (Pittsburgh, PA) for a 1:00 p.m. game on Saturday, March 27.
