Lady Lions Fall in First Round of USCAA Tournament
Akron, OH - On Saturday, May 8, the Penn State Beaver softball team fell to #1 seed Robert Morris University, Springfield (Ill), 4-2, in the first round of the USCAA National Softball Tournament.
Beaver got on the board by scoring twice in the top of the first. The first run came as sophomore Lindsey Scialdone (Ellwood City High School, Ellwood City, PA) beat the throw home to score the first run during a run down and then followed it up with an RBI single by sophomore Katie Landis (Rochester High School, Rochester, PA). Robert Morris got on the board in the second inning as Megan Green launched a 2-out, 3-2 pitch over the center field fence to pull within one. Although Beaver played great defense throughout the game, two throwing errors in the bottom of the fourth gave Robert Morris the lead, permanently, as they scored three unearned runs to take the win.
In the loss, junior Kayla Chambers (South Side High School, Hookstown, PA) pitched a gem, throwing six innings, giving up three hits, one earned run, walking one, and striking out one. Offensively, Landis finished 2-3 with an RBI.
Beaver heads to the losers' bracket when they take on PSUAC rival Penn State Hazleton, 9 a.m., Sunday, May 9.
