Lady Lions Split Another Doubleheader

Waynesburg, PA - On Thursday, April 1, the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions softball team split its third straight doubleheader of the season, this time against the Yellow Jackets of Waynesburg University (Waynesburg, PA). Beaver lost the first game, 2-1, but took the second, 10-7.
In the first game, Beaver held a 1-0 advantage until the bottom of the seventh inning when Waynesburg scored two runs off of an error and won the game.
Beaver's only run was scored in the fourth inning when sophomore Jamie Karpinski's (Quigley Catholic High School, Baden, PA) RBI brought in freshman Kori Freyermuth (Perry Traditional Academy, Pittsburgh, PA).
In game two, the Lady Lions jumped to an early 8-0 lead, and although Waynesburg made a comeback, it was Beaver who took the win.
Freshman Chelsea Barnes (New Brighton High School, New Brighton, PA) batted 3-4 and had two stolen bases. Sophomore Lindsey Scialdone (Lincoln High School, Ellwood City, PA) batted 2-2, and senior Alonna Verrico (Rochester High School, Rochester, PA) had two RBIs.
The Lady Lions are now 6-13. On Monday, April 5, the team hosts Rochester College (Rochester Hills, MI) at 6:00 p.m.
