Lady Lions Are 15-1 in PSUAC, Enter Championship Tournament

Scranton, PA - On Saturday, April 24, the Penn State Beaver softball team defeated Penn State Worthington Scranton in a PSUAC doubleheader, 10-0 and 25-3. Beaver, now 15-1 in the conference and 24-16 overall, enters the PSUAC Championship Tournament tied for first place with Penn State Hazleton. Date and time of tournament play will be announced.
In game one, Beaver won in 5 innings. Sophomore Lindsey Scialdone (Lincoln High School, Ellwood City, PA) had 3 hits. Senior Alonna Verrico (Rochester High School, Rochester, PA) and sophomores Jamie Karpinski (Quigley Catholic High School, Baden, PA) and Alysia Policaro (Beaver Falls High School, Beaver Falls, PA) each had 2 hits. Policaro also had 3 stolen bases.
The winning pitcher was freshman Alyssa Carver (New Brighton High School, New Brighton, PA) who pitched all 5 innings, had 8 strikeouts, and 1 walk.
In the second game, Beaver took a 13-0 advantage in the first two innings and worked its way to a 25-3 win.
At bat, 8 Beaver players had 2 or more hits. Freshman Chelsea Barnes (New Brighton High School, New Brighton, PA) batted 5-5 and had 4 runs. Freshman Kori Freyermuth (Perry Traditional Academy, Pittsburgh, PA) and Policaro each batted 3-3 and each had 3 RBIs. Scialdone contributed 4 RBIs.
