Lady Lions Drop Doubleheader Against Visiting Southern Virginia

On Friday, the Lady Lions hosted the Knights of Southern Virginia in a doubleheader. In game one, Southern Virginia would jump to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first against the Lions. Beaver remained scoreless in the bottom of the first and after the second inning.
In the bottom of the third Beaver's senior Melissa Swoager (South Side/South Side, PA) and junior Alonna Verrico (Rochester/Rochester, PA) would each drive in an RBI to tie the game at 2-2. In the bottom of the 5th Beaver earned another run; scoring junior Jen Hain (Northgate/Pittsburgh, PA) off a single from Verrico.
The Knights struck again in the top of the 6th and never let up after scoring 7 runs in the top of the 7th. Beaver looked to rally against Southern Virginia in the bottom of the 7th but came up short scoring only one run. The Knights of Southern Virginia would win this battle by a final score 11-4.
In game two, the Lion's seeked revenge against the Knights jumping ahead 4-0 in the bottom of the first with a 2 run home run from Swoager. Beaver scored again in the bottom of the 2nd to give them a strong lead. However, the Knights battled back when #18 Abigail Baxter hit a two run home run, bringing the Knights to score a total of 4 runs in the top of the third.
Southern Virginia scored two more runs in the top of the 5th to bring them ahead 6-5. Looking to hold on and regain the lead, Beaver had one last up to bat in the bottom of the fifth. Beaver came up short unable to score any runs as the game was called due to darkness. Southern Virginia swept the Lady Lions with a final score of 6-5.
The Lady Lions will host the Theil College Wildcats tomorrow, Saturday, March 21st. Game time is set for 2p.m.
