Lady Lions Win Conference Doubleheader

On Sunday, April 5 the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions softball team traveled to Penn State Mont Alto where they defeated their host in a conference doubleheader, 10-1 and 14-12.
In game one, Beaver scored two runs in the top of the first, holding Mont Alto scoreless, then went on for three more runs in the top of the second to take the lead, 5-0.
Beaver didn't score in the top of the third and Mont Alto scored their first run in the bottom of the third. Beaver came back, though, with five runs in the top of the fourth. Holding Mont Alto scoreless in the bottom of the fourth and fifth, Beaver was declared the winner of game one, forcing the 8-run rule on Mont Alto.
Sophomore Kayla Chambers (South Side High School, South Side, PA) pitched a complete game, giving up only two hits while junior Amanda Moore (PA Charter School, Aliquippa, PA) led the Lady Lions with three hits and three RBIs.
In game two, Beaver scored a run in the top of the first, held Mont Alto scoreless, and scored three more in the top of the second for a 4-0 lead. Mont Alto came back with three runs in the bottom of the second. Beaver added one more run in the top of the third and two more in the top of the fourth while holding Mont Alto scoreless in both innings for a 7-3 lead.
Beaver had five more runs in the top of the fifth hoping to enforce the 8-run rule again, but Mont Alto rallied with four and five runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth. Tied at 12-12 in the seventh inning, Beaver scored two runs and held Mont Alto scoreless to regain the lead and take the win.
Junior Jen Hain (Northgate High School, Pittsburgh, PA) and freshman Katie Landis (Rochester High School, Rochester, PA) led the game with three hits each.
Beaver, now 2-0 in the PSUAC and 7-15 overall, will take a break from conference play when they travel to take on the Franciscan University Lady Barons (Ohio) on Tuesday, April 7 at 4 p.m.
