Lady Lions Split Doubleheader with Skidmore, Finlandia

On Tuesday, March 10 the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions softball team split a doubleheader in Fort Pierce, FL where they defeated the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds, 6-2, but fell to the Finlandia University Lions (Hancock, MI), 8-3.
Sophomore Kayla Chambers (South Side High School, Hookstown, PA) pitched six strong innings, giving up two hits, walking none, and striking out three. Chambers gave up two unearned runs on her way to her first win of the 2009 season. Seniors Taylor Rzeczkowski (Highland High School/Penn State New Kensingon, Tarentum, PA) and Melissa Swoager (South Side High School, Community College of Beaver County, Hookstown, PA) each scored two runs.
In the second game, Finlandia scored five unanswered runs before Beaver scored two in the fifth for a score of 5-2. Beaver brought it to 5-3 in the sixth before Finlandia added three. Swoager pitched four innings, struck out one, walked one, and gave up four earned runs on her way to her second loss of the season.
Beaver is 1-3 overall. The Lady Lions return to action on Wednesday, March 11 at 9:30 a.m. when they take on the Eagles of Northwestern University (St. Paul, MN) in Fort Pierce, Fl.
