Lady Lions Split with Hazleton, Remain on Top of PSUAC

Monaca, PA- The Lady Lions remained on top of the PSUAC after Saturday, splitting a double header with Penn State Hazleton.
In Game one, Beaver scored first, in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Hazleton scored once in the second and third to take a 2-1 lead. Beaver tied the game in the bottom of the third by pushing a run across the plate. The game would remained tied at 2 after seven innings. Hazleton struck first in the eighth inning, scoring twice. Beaver rallied in the eighth. The rally was capped of with a two out, walk off double by Freshman Jessica Campbell (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls, PA), scoring Freshman Katie Landis (Rochester/Rochester, PA) who herself, doubled in the tieing run one at bat earlier. Sophomore Kayla Chambers (South Side/Hookstown, PA) pitched eight innings, giving up 8 hits, three earned runs, striking out three and walking none. Junior Jen Hain (Northgate/Pittsburgh, PA), Senior Taylor Rzeczkowski (Highlands/Tarentum, PA) and Landis all had two hits a piece. Landis drove in two runs in the win as well.
In Game two, Beaver cruised to a 4-0 lead, picking up one in the first and second, and then two in the fourth. Hazleton would answer, scoring four in the the top of the fifth, before Beaver would answer with two of its own, off a two run home run off the bat of Katie Landis. Hazleton would tie it, scoring one in the sixth and then the tieing run in the seventh with two outs. Hazleton would again strike first in the 8th, scoring twice. This time Beaver would have no answer, losing in eight innings by the score of 8-6. Kayla Chambers was tagged with the loss, giving up three runs, none earned, pitching 1 1/3 innings,
With the split, Beaver now sits at 5-1 in the PSUAC and 11-16 overall. The Lady Lions will host Scranton on Sunday at 12 p.m.
