Lady Lions on Top in PSUAC After Double Defeat of Schuylkill

Schuylkill Haven, PA - On Sunday, April 26 the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions remained at the top of the PSUAC when they took two games from Penn State Schuylkill, 10-9 and 15-9.
In the first game Beaver scored two in the first inning. Junior Jen Hain (Northgate High School, Pittsburgh, PA) led the game off with a bunt single and senior Taylor Rzeczkowski followed with a bunt single that pushed Hain to third. After Rzeczkowski stole second, senior Melissa Swoager (South Side High School, Hookstown, PA) blasted a two-run double. Beaver scored one in the second and six in the top of the fourth for a 9-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, Schuylkill scored three but Beaver added one in the sixth for a score of 10-3. Schuylkill went on to score six times in the bottom of the seventh but Beaver took the win.
Sophomore Kayla Chambers (South Side High School, Hookstown, PA) earned her eleventh victory of the season, Hain finished with three hits, and Rzeczkowski finished with three stolen bases.
In game two, Beaver opened up a 7-0 lead after two just innings, scoring one in the first and six in the second. Schuylkill plated five in the bottom of the third to pull within two runs, 7-5. After two scoreless innings, Schuylkill took their first lead of the day with four unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 9-7 lead going into the last inning. However, Beaver came alive with eight runs in the top of the seventh to take the win.
Hain collected three hits while Swoager, Chambers, and freshmen Lindsey Scialdone (Lincoln High School, Ellwood City, PA), Jamie Karpinski (Quigley Catholic High School, Beaver, PA) and Katie Landis (Rochester High School, Rochester, PA) each had two hits in the win.
Beaver is 15-1 in the PSUAC and 21-16 overall. The women clinched a spot in this week's PSUAC playoffs to be played Wednesday, April 29 and Thursday, April 30 in Williamsport, PA. Beaver will close their regular season on Monday, April 27 when they host Penn State Greater Allegheny at 2 p.m.
