Lady Lions Down Abington, Keep Pace in PSUAC

Abington, PA- The Lady Lions of Penn State Beaver took two from PSUAC rival Penn State Abington on Sunday.
In game one, Beaver took a quick 2-0 lead after Junior Jen Hain (Northgate/Pittsburgh, PA) and Senior Taylor Rzeczkowski both had bunt singles before Senior Melissa Swoager (South Side/Hookstown, PA) drove the pair in. Abington knotted the score at 2's, answering in the bottom of the first. Beaver would then out score Abington 11-3, plating two in the third and fourth, and seven in the fifth. Beaver pounded out 15 hits in the win, led by three from Rzeczkowski, and two from Hain, Swoager, Freshman Lindsey Scialdone (Lincoln/Ellwood, PA), Jamie Karpinski (Quigley/Beaver, PA) and Sophomore Kayla Chambers (South Side/Hookstown, PA). Swoager drove in three runs for the winners. Chambers collected her 10th win of the season, pitching 5 innings, striking out seven.
In game two, the story was all Beaver and all Melissa Swoager. Beaver pounded out nine hits, scoring three in the first, four in the third, and one in the fifth. Freshman Katie Landis (Rochester/Rochester, PA) hit her fourth home run of the season, driving in three. Junior Karla Beatty (Rochester/Rochester, PA) had three hits in the win. Melissa Swoager threw a perfect game for the Lady Lions, giving up no hits and no walks while striking out seven.
With the wins, Beaver is now 19-16 overall and 13-1 in the PSUAC. The women will return to action 12 p.m. Sunday, when they travel to Penn State Schuylkill.
