New Brighton, PA -- Men's Soccer struggles against University of Pikeville, losing 6-2.
Coming off of a mid-week loss to Point Park, the Lions looking for a win against UPike, gave up an early goal to start the game. For the next 30 minutes it was a tight defensive battle, but finally Beaver was able to get on the board and tie the game 1-1 with a goal from John Kazmierczyk. UPike was quick to answer, less than six minutes later, scoring again to make the score 2-1 which would go on to be the halftime score.
In the second half Beaver struggled to keep up with the offense of UPike, giving up 3 goals (56:49, 68:35, 85:56) before they could score their second of the game off of the toe of Zhaopeng Wan, his first of the season. With the scoreboard showing 5-2 in favor of the Bears with just under two minutes on the clock, Beaver gave up a 6th goal in the closing seconds of the game to fall by a final score of 6-2.
Leading the offense for the Lions were Wan and Kazmierczyk with a goal a piece. In the net for Beaver was Sam Sharpless who played all 90 minutes making 15 saves in the game, many that were back to back shots with several Bears in the goal box attacking the ball.
The loss puts Beaver at 2-3-1 this season. They have the next 6 days off to recover from a tough stretch of games before returning to action Saturday, September 23rd when they open conference play against Penn State Schuylkill at home at 4:00 p.m.
