Beaver keep the wins rolling demolishing Worthington Scranton
Beaver come out with big win over PSU Worthington Scranton
Unionville, PA - The men of the Penn State Beaver Soccer team went to play the guys at Penn State Worthington Scranton Saturday afternoon coming out with outstanding 10-2 win.
This is Beaver's fourth win overall and third in the conferance. The match consisted of a lot of action, mostly from Beaver.
The first half started off on a bumpy ride for both teams but Beaver came out onto a smoother road when freshman midfielder Alex Rectenwald (Pittsburgh, PA/ Chartiers Valley) scored Beaver's first goal of the match in the 8th minute, assisted by freshman Julius Illiano (Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin). Less than a minute later Marcus Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/ Perry) scored the second goal of the match and for Beaver, assisted by Rectenwald. After some time had passed Worthington Scranton answered back with a goal. With 15 minutes to spare in the first half, Lamont Wright (Pittsburgh, PA/ Penn Hills) scored with an assist by junior Glenn Claypool (Palmdale, CA/ Highland).
2 minutes into the second half, Illiano scored his second goal of the match with an assist by Recetenwald. Moments later Worthington Scranton were quick scoring another goal and their final of the match. 5 minutes later Wright answered back with his second goal of the match and Beaver's 5th goal assisted by Illiano. Minutes later Wright went on to score again giving him the first hat trick of the match. In his third goal, Wright was assisted by Smith. After Wrights goal it was silent until the action picked back up in the 65th minute by Rectenwald with his second goal of the match assisted by Smith. Smith later then scored his second goal of the match unassisted. Following that Smith went on to gain the other hat trick of the game with another goal assisted by Illiano. To finish the game off, Illiano had a final goal in the 85th minute assisted by Sidney Bates (Pittsburgh, PA/ Caroline (Va)).
Smith and Wright both had 6 shots, 4 shots on goal, and 3 goals each. Along with Rectenwald who had 4 shots, 3 shots on goal, and 2 goals. And Illiano with 4 shots, 3 shots on goal, with 2 goals. Illiano lead with 3 assists, following that was Smith and Rectenwald with 2 assists each. Rashitha Perera (Irvine, CA/ Northwood High School) was given 3 shots on goal and only concieded 1, saving 1 other attempt. Samuel Sharpless (Conway, PA/ Freedom) was given 3 shots on goal, and as well only conceided 1 goal with 2 saves.
The soccer team's next match is Sunday, September 27, against Alfred St. at 3 p.m.
