Beaver falls to Schuylkill on the road

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. –– The Penn State Beaver men's basketball team suffered a road loss to Penn State Schuylkill Saturday afternoon, 74-46.
Junior forward Andrew Brady (Alliance/Marlington) led Beaver in scoring with 11 points and nine rebounds followed by junior guard Keon Butler (Annapolis/Star Severn School), who finished with 10 points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals.
1st half: The game began with Schuylkill pulling ahead 10-2 against Beaver. But the Lions then had three turnovers over a 3-minute span, which allowed Schuylkill the opportunity to increase the deficit to double digits at the 13:04 mark (15-4). Down the stretch, Butler banked back-to-back jumpers to cut Schuylkill's lead to two possessions and put the Lions within striking distance (20-15). While freshman guard Alexander Avery (Stafford/Brooke Point) converted both his awarded free-throws, Beaver trailed by 10 at halftime (38-28).
2nd half: After the break, the Lions struggled defensively and were unable to slow down Schuylkill's offense, which outscored them 36-18 in the final period, handing the Lions a 74-46 loss for the evening.
Inside the Box: Beaver shot 34 percent from the field, connecting on 17-50 shots, 15.8 percent from 3-point range on 3-19 shots and 60 percent from the free-throw line, hitting 9-15 from the charity stripe.
The Lions are now 9-9 overall and 6-6 in the PSUAC standings. The Lions will be for more PSUAC conference action Tuesday, Jan. 28, where they will take on Penn State Shenango on the road. The game is slated for 7 p.m.
