Monaca, Pa -- The Penn State Beaver men's basketball team welcomed Penn State Greater Allegheny for their final game this season. Being out of playoff contention, Beaver came into this game looking to end their season on a good note with a win in this one.
Beaver started off this game playing well, matching Greater Allegheny shot for shot for the first 10 minutes of play. The team started off hot, just as they have in most of their games this season. The spirit night crowd was into the game, giving the team a lot of momentum early on as the Beaver seniors led their team. At the halfway point of the first half of play, Beaver began to lose their momentum as the team started missng shots and turning the ball over. Greater Allegheny took full advantage of Beaver's lapse in concentration, as they began widening their lead with every opportunity they had. Beaver finished up the first half shooting just 26% from the field, while turning the ball over 14 times. Going into halftime, Beaver was down just 10 points as the score was a manageable 40-30.
The second half showed a Beaver team with more determination, while still not having the focus they needed. The team battled throughout the half, keeping pace with Greater Allegheny while never overcoming their lead. Beaver improved their shooting in this half, going 35% from the field, but still not shooting as well as they had earlier in the season. As the game drew to a close, Greater Allegheny tacked on a few easy 3-pointers and widened their lead to 75-59 to take a win from Beaver in this one.
With their loss to Greater Allegheny, Beaver finished their season with an overall record of 9-16 while going 5-11 in conference play. The team had started the season as a young team, winning their first 3 games in a row. By the end of it all, their inexperience seemed to become a big fault for the team, as they finished their season on a 6 game losing streak. In their final game this season, Senior's Ignacio Alleyne (Stafford, VA / Colonial Forge) and Luis Rodriguez (San Diego, CA / Calvary Christian Academy) were recognized and congradulated on their performance over their last four years.
The team was led in this game by the efforts of Freshmen Dimetres Moore (Mesa, Az / Skyline), as he recorded the team's final double-double this season with a team high 13 rebounds and 11 points. This was the Beaver's last game this season, thank you to all the fans who came to support the team throughout the year.
