Monaca, Pa -- The Penn State Beaver basketball team took on the men of Penn State Schuylkill, winning a close one by a score of 84-80.
The Penn State Beaver basketball team took on Penn State Schuylkill for their third conference game this season. The team comes into this one on a five game losing streak in which the team struggled badly against beatable opponents.
This game was on the closest battles, from start to finish, that Beaver has played all season. From the start these two teams went back and forth with the lead, trading the lead back and forth every few minutes. Neither team seemed to have an edge as play went on and both teams seemed to feed off of the energy from the close battle. Going into the half, Schuylkill had the lead 41-40.
The second half of play was just as close as the first half, as neither team was willing to give up a point. The two teams continued to trade points, and both sides were able to hold small lead at one point in this half. As the game went on, mistakes seemed to be the difference maker that gave Beaver the edge they needed. With just under a minute left in play, Beaver was able to hold a two point lead that eventually was enough to snap their five game losing streak by a final score of 84-80.
With their win against Schuylkill, the Beaver men have snapped their five game losing streak and now sit at 4-5 overall with a 1-2 conference record. The team really played well in this game, battling hard to overcome their little mistakes and take advantage of Schuylkill's. The team was lead in this game by the efforts of Senior Ignacio Alleyne (Stafford, VA / Colonial Forge), who posted a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. The team will play next on Tuesday, December 6, at home against Penn State Du Bois. Game time is set for 8 pm.
