The Penn State Beaver men's basketball team took on Thiel College, losing their first game of the season 78-91.
The Penn State Beaver basketball team took to the road, traveling to Westminster College for their first game of the Westminster Tour. Beaver took on Thiel College in this first matchup, and looked to keep their perfect season alive coming into this one. The team has looked very good in their first 3 games, winning each easily. The team comes into this one hoping that they will be able to stack up against a very good Thiel team.
This game was Beaver's first real test of the season, as both teams came into this game with a lot of talent and confidence that they could win. For the first ten minutes the game was a real battle, as both teams were able to lead at some point. As the game went on Thiel began to gain momentum and took the lead lat in the first half. Beaver struggled shooting in this game, making only 28% of their shots in the first half while shooting 35% on the game. This struggle to make shots is what hurt Beaver the most in this one as they went into halftime down 44-33. Coming out of the half, Bevaer seemed a lot more focused and they played hard to try to come back the whole second half. The team shot a lot better in the second half, and went 42% from the field. However, the team could only keep up with Thiel in the second half and couldn't overcome a Thiel team that just outplayed Beaver giving them their first loss of the season 78-91.
Beaver struggled in this game as they had a hard time shooting in the first half which ultimately held them back from winning in this one. The team was led by Senior Ignacio Alleyne (Stafford, VA / Colonial Forge) who scored 15 points and hauled in 13 rebounds along with getting 1 block, getting his first double-double of the season in the losing effort. Beaver was also helped by the efforts of Junior Eric Gallupe (Sewickley, Pa / Avonworth) who scored a team high 18 points while hauling in 6 rebounds and going 4-9 from three point range. The team now sits at 3-1 overall and will return to action on Saturday, November 19, to take on Westminster College at Westminster. Game time is set for 4 pm.
