The Penn State Beaver men's basketball team beat Grove City College on the road by a score of 78-57, opening their season with a promising 3-0 record.
The Penn State Beaver basketball team faced off against Grove City College for what would be the teams third game of the young season. Beaver comes into this game 2-0, playing well in both of their first two games. The team has shown so far that their young talent is for real, and while the team doesn't seem to be firing on all cylinders just yet they are still getting the job done.
This game started off with Grove City jumping out to an 8-0 lead in the first 5 minutes of play, sparking a fire in Beaver. The team would rally thanks to two three pointers from Junior Eric Gallupe, and within a few minutes would begin to pull out to a sizeable lead. As the first half went on both teams really played hard, playing a very close half that ended up with Beaver coming out on top going into halftime with a score of 41-27.
The second half of play really was all Beaver from the very begining, as the team came out focused and ready to play. Once again, Beaver's two biggest factors were their bench and their ability to make their shots. The team scored 20 off the bench and shot 42% from the field while making an astounding 84% of their free throws. Beaver would have to play hard to the end of this one, but would eventually end up securing their first road win of the year with a score of 78-57.
Beaver is now 3-0 to start the season after their win against Grove City, and the team looks to be in great shape to compete in conference play this season. Despite being young, Beaver is very talented and has a deep bench that can go out and score when needed. The team was lead in this game by one of their veteran leaders, Junior Eric Gallupe, who scored a team high 22 points while making 11 of his 11 free throw attempts and hauling in 6 rebounds. Beaver will be back in action on Friday, November 18, as they prepare to take on Thiel College. The game will be held at Westminster College's facilities and game time is set for 6 pm.
