Lions drop conference game to Dubois
Beaver falls by a final score of 87-72.
Dubois, PA -- Beaver drops to .500 in their PSUAC record with a loss at Dubois.
To open the game, Beaver got on the board first with a 3-pointer by Eric Gallupe (Sewickley, Pa / Avonworth) who was quickly followed by another 3-pointer from the hand of Christian Perksin (Pittsburgh, PA / Perry) to make the score 6-2 in favor of Beaver. Dubois would take the lead at the 17:49 mark, but Beaver was able to tie it back up just two minutes later (10-10) on another jumper by Perkins. This back and forth action continued over the next ten minutes as the lead changed hands a total of 7 times before Dubois took the lead at 7:29 (28-27) and would hold on to that lead for the remainder of the half. Despite the best efforts of the Lions of Beaver, they would take a twelve point deficit into the locker room, 52-40.
To open the second half, Beaver got on the board first with a jumper by G.J. Boykin (Aliquippa, PA / Aliquippa) to cut the Beaver deficit to 10. Beaver continued to cut into the Dubois lead and would narrow the score to 60-52 on an and-one by Ignacio Alleyne (Stafford, VA / Colonial Forge). But Dubois was relentless, immediately going on an 8-point run to rebuild their lead to 16 with just under ten minutes to play (71-55). Beaver continued to battle, led by Boykin and Lamont Wright (Pittsburgh, PA / Penn Hills) in the closing minutes, but their efforts were not enough to gain the advantage as Beaver fell by a final score of 87-72.
The Lions were led by Boykin, Wright and Alleyene who all tallied 16 points in the game. Boykin and Alleyne also both had double-doubles. Alleyene with 16 points and rebounds and Boykin with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Sitting at 4-4 in the PSUAC, Beaver will return to action on Saturday, January 23rd at 7:00 p.m. when they play host to Kent State Tuscarawas on Beaver's annual Spirit Night.
