Men Win in High Scoring Game Over Fayette
Beaver defeats Fayette, 108-102.
Monaca, PA -- Men win in a fast paced game over Penn State Fayette, 108-102.
After jumping out to a twelve point lead (15-3), nine of which came of off back-to-back-to-back 3-point shots from Christian Perkins (Pittsburgh, PA / Perry) and Eric Gallupe (), Fayette dialed in their offense to bring the game within three (15-12) at the 14:35 mark. Over the next two minutes Fayette would claim their first lead of the game (19-17) with just over twelve minutes in the half. That lead was short lived as Beaver tied the game at 19 on a Perkins jumper. This type of back and forth action would continue, with the lead changing hands four more times in the last ten minutes of the half as Beaver would carry a 49-46 lead into the locker room. After twenty minutes of play, both teams had made 19 field goals, but the advantage came from behind the 3-point line for Beaver as they made 9 of 15.
To open the second half, Beaver came out hot as senior, Marcus Smith (Pittsburgh, PA / went on his own nine point run to extend Beaver's lead to 10 points. Just as in the first half, Fayette would bring the score within two (62-60) this time at the 14:09 mark, but this would be as close as they would come to overpowering the offense of the Lions. Despite never regaining the lead, Fayette continued to challenge Beaver as they came within 3 points with just under five minutes to play (92-89). For the final five minutes of the game, the pace remained fast with both squads breaking the 100-point mark, but it was Beaver who came out on top by a final score of 108-102.
Leading the offense for the Lions were seniors, Lamont Wright (Pittsburgh, PA / Penn Hills) and Marcus Smith who had 25 and 24 consecutively.
With this win, Beaver advances to 3-1 in the PSUAC. They will take to the road for the final game of the first half of the season on Friday, December 11th as they head to Penn State Greater Allegheny.
