Media, PA - Beaver went on the road to take on Penn State Brandywine Saturday night, but were defeated 61-48.
Beaver fell behind quickly (0-7) four minutes into the game. Beaver finally scored their first two points, with a jumpshot by Marcus Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/ Perry). They quickly went on a 6-point run, capped off by a Wanya Smith-Austin (Sharon, PA / Sharon) layup, to pull within one and then continued to rally to tie the game at the 10:44 mark in the first half, 9-9. Brandywine quickly regained the lead and despite 6 consecutive points from Smith followed by 5 from Lamont Wright (Pittsburgh, PA / Penn Hills) Beaver would go into halftime down by a score of 36-20.
Beaver started fast in the second half as Christian Perkins (Pittsburgh, PA/ Perry) made a jump shot, adding 2 points to the board. He was followed by Smith who scored a 3-pointer, making the score 25-36. Beaver pulled within 9 points (40-31) on a pair of free throws from Ignacio Alleyne (Stafford, VA / Colonial Forge) but the first half cushion that Brandywine built was too much to overcome even though Beaver outscored Brandywine in the half. Smith scored a 3 pointer in the last few seconds of the game for Beaver to end on a high note, but it wasn't enough to catch Brandywine.
Leading in points for Beaver was Smith, putting 19 points on the board. Following closely behind, was Lamont Wright (Pittsburgh, PA/ Penn Hills) with 11 points. Perkins added to the stats with 10 rebounds for Beaver.
Beaver's next game is Sunday, December 6th against Penn State Lehigh Valley at Cedar Crest College at 3 p.m.
