Beaver falls to Ohio Valley on the road
Lions defeated 103-65.
Vienna, OH -- In their first road game under Coach Bibey, the Lions fell to Ohio Valley 103-65.
Through the first five minutes of play, the Lions were able to stay within three points of DII Ohio Valley University, until the defense of Beaver gave up an 8-point run at the 15:55 mark. Despite the offensive spark from Ohio Valley, key jump shots from Christian Perkins (Pittsburgh, PA / Perry) and Sidney Bates (Pittsburgh, PA / Caroline (Va)) kept Beaver in contention. After going down ten with less than 10 minutes to play, back to back shots by Gerald Boykin (Ambridge, PA / Aliquippa) in addition to two key free throws from Perkins and DJ Austin (East Liverpool, OH / East Liverpool), the Lions found themselves within 4 (21-25) of Ohio Valley with 7:26 to play in the half. A late run in the final minutes of the half, including 4 3-point shots from Ohio Valley, left Beaver with a 21 point deficit going into half time (30-51).
To open the second half, Beaver scored immediately on a Perkins jumper, but the high powered offense of Ohio Valley proved to be too much to over come for a young Beaver team. Commiting a total of 24 turnovers in the game, the Lions fell by a final score of 103-65.
Against a DII opponent the Lions were led offenseively by Perkins who put up 20 points. He was followed by Austin who contributed 15 points.
The Lions return to action on Wednesday, November 18th when they travel to Mount Union for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
