Men fall in PSUAC Final Four
Beaver loses to Mont Alto, 90-84.
Mont Alto, PA -- The three seed, Beaver, traveled to #2 Mont Alto for the PSUAC semi-final game earlier this afternoon.
From the opening minutes, the game was a back and forth battle. Beaver went up by 6 (19-13) at the 13:25 mark on a Chris Weathers (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) layup, but Mont Alto would quickly tie the game at 25. Again, Beaver would surge forward and expanded their lead to 8 (33-25) with just over 6 minutes to play on a Sidney Bates (Pittsburgh, PA/Caroline (VA)) bucket and again Mont Alto would answer with an 8-0 run to tie the game at 33. However, Beaver would take a small lead (40-38) into the half thanks to a Roger Rhoden (Moon, PA/OLSH) layup.
In the second half, Mont Alto turned the tables and maintained a small lead until Nick Miller (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Fall) hit a crucial 3-pointer to put Beaver up 56-55 at the 12:25 mark. As Beaver continued to battle they seemed to always maintain the edge, but could never pull more than 4 points ahead of a hungry Mont Alto team. With just 1:18 on the clock, and the game tied at 82, a Beaver team in foul trouble just couldn't hang on to earn the win, falling by a final score of 90-84.
Miller led the way with 26, followed by Rob Agurs (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) with 22, but their aggressive scoring efforts weren't enough as they were out rebounded 37-20. Beaver also struggled at the line only shooting 54.5% making it tough to keep them in the game at the end.
Despite the loss, Beaver ended their season with a 14-4 conference record (19-7 overall) and was a perfect 11-0 at home.
