Beaver falls to NAIA DII Webber International
Lions fall 97-66.
Babson Park, FL -- In day two of action in Florida, Beaver faced Webber International University, an NAIA Division II program.
To open the game, the Warriors of Webber jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and slowly built their lead throughout the half. Just over six minutes into the half, Beaver found themselves down 20 points (25-5), but slowly cut the defecit. At the 7:40 mark, a 3-point shot by Markes Royster (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) cut the Warriors' lead to 15 (35-20). The Lions continued to battle back narrowing the gap further by the 2:05 mark to just 9 points (30-39), but Webber quickly answered with 7 unanswered points to go into half time with the score 30-46 in favor of Webber.
In the second half, Beaver was never able to find their rhythm and quickly let Webber increase their lead to 20 (32-52) at the 17:09 mark. Despite the scoring efforts of Beaver, who shot only 36% from the floor, the Warriors increased their lead to 30 points at 9:47 (53-73) and maintained their lead throughout the half to win by a final score of 97-66.
Leading the scoring efforts for Beaver were Nick Miller (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) and Chris Weathers (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) who both had 11. Also in double digits with 10 a piece were Chris Best (Brooklyn, NY / Bishop Ford) and Donquayle Hannah (Columbus, GA / Smith's Station).
The loss puts Beaver at 9-3 overall on the season. The Lions will return to action in 2014 when they face Grove City College at home on January 8th at 7:00p.m.
