Beaver Defeats Penn State Schuylkill
On Friday, Dec. 12 the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions basketball team gained another PSUAC victory when they hosted and defeated Penn State Schuylkill, 96-80.
Schuylkill struck first and held onto the lead against Beaver. Beaver's Matt Franetti (Blackhawk, PA) made an impressive save and long pass to Billy Stoughton (Slippery Rock, PA) to help Beaver get back on its feet. Beaver continued to battle as Tony "Showtime" Houghton (Pittsburgh, PA) made an intense steal and converted it into a Beaver lay-up. However, Schuylkill ended the half in the lead, 50-44.
Schuylkill started the second half going strong, but Beaver's Billy Stoughton (Slippery Rock, PA) hit a key 3-pointer to put Beaver ahead, 61-60. Beaver went on to dominate the defensive and offensive side of the game and held the lead to take the win.
Zach Fetchin (Hopewell, PA) led the team with 29 points, and Tony Houghton followed with a total of 22 points. Freshman David McGarry (Poland, Ohio) led with 2 offensive and 4 defensive rebounds.
Beaver, now 3-1 in the PSUAC and 4-3 overall, will host conference rival Penn College on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m.
