Fightin Beavs are WPACRHL Champions!
Beavs win 3-2 over RMU
Neville Island, PA -- Penn State Beaver Fightin' Beavs win the 2014-15 WPACRHL Championship!
After an incredible 15-2 season, the Beavs, who have been working toward this goal for the last 6 years, finally claim the championship. Outscoring their opponents 96-33 this season, Beaver knew with dedication from the guys that they had the talent to win.
Leading the scoring efforts on the season was Josh Kelly who had 15 goals and 6 assists followed by Jason Schwartz who had 14 goals on the year. Schwartz, a freshman from Mars High School, tallied an impressive 6 goals in the final two games of the season to finish second in scoring on the team while helping lead the team to 3 post-season wins.
The team also faced adversity on the defensive side as starting goalie, Mike Martin, who currently serves in the U.S. Military, was deployed at the semester break. Without hesitation, former player and current assistant coach, Justin Vorbach sought approval to fill the void and ultimately helped lead the team to 10 second half victories allowing only 19 goals.
Losing just one senior, Cliff Bryant, who they lost in December due to graduation, the Beavs look to return the majority of their young roster to defend their title next season.
