Monaca, PA - Today's PSAUC competition faired much better than the previous for Beaver. Finishing the day with a win the team now holds 2 PSUAC competition wins. Scoring 9 runs on the day Beaver was able to do enough damage to secure a win in this set of home games. With final scored being 13-3 in favor of Penn State New Kensington and 6-4 in favor of Beaver they look to take this opportunity to turn the season around.
In game one, Sophomore, Jacob Gresham (San Francisco, CA) started on the mound and then was relieved by Freshman, Jordon Streamo (Niles, OH). Gresham faced 25 batters, while Streamo faced 11. Freshman, Christopher Cann (Selden, NY) had 2 hits for Beaver in game 1. Cann also scored 1 of the teams runs along with Freshman, Nicholas Campbell (Lewes, DE) and Junior, Matthew Cater (Monaca, PA). One of the major producers for Beaver was Freshman, Phillip Betz (Marrieta, CA) who has 1 hit which was for extra bases as a double, and 2 RBIs. Beaver had 6 hits, 2 walks. 1 stolen base, and scored 3 runs, finishing game 1 with a score of 13-3 in favor of Penn State New Kensington.
Game two for Beaver ended in favor of the home team finishing with a score of 6-4 after 7 hard fought innings. Beaver had a slow start to the game but came out hot in the 3rd inning scoring 3 runs, then scoring again in the 5th with 2 runs and the 6th with 1 run. Penn State New Kensington only scored in the 6th and 7th innings of this game. On the mound was Sophomore, Jericho Dela Cruz (Auburn, WA) who threw the majority of the game goinf 6.1 innings and then was relieved by Campbell who finished the final 2 outs. Dela Cruz threw to 30 batters and Campbell threw to 3. All 5 hits this game came from 5 players on Beavers roster. Sophomore, Aaron Stribling (Hainesport, NJ), Campbell, Cater, Streamo, and Betz all contributed to the hit count in the game. Cater and Campbell hit for extra bases both with a double, and Stribling hit a homerun in the bottom of the 5th. Cater, Streamo, and Campbell all had stolen bases this game which was a huge part of the success this game.
The baseball team is now 2-18 overall and 2-6 in PSUAC play. They will play again on Tuesday, April 5th at 2pm against Kent State Tuscarawas in a 9 inning game. Make sure to catch the action live on the Rise and Roar Network or come out and support at Beaver Field!
