MONACA, Pa. — The Penn State Beaver men's baseball team fell to PSUAC rival Penn State Du Bois in Wednesday night's final regular season game.
In the last game of the series, Beaver started the scoring after sophomore Stefan Romaniuk (Alpha/Notre Dame) singled to center field and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Junior Scott Hughes (Aliquippa/Central Valley), who was next at-bat, doubled to right field to drive-in Romaniuk (1-0). However, despite loading their bases in the bottom of the eighth, the Lions weren't able to complete their scoring opportunities, and this would be the only run they scored in the rest of the game. Beaver took a 3-1 loss in the third game of the Du Bois series.
Hughes led Beaver in RBIs, earning 1, while freshman Christian James (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) went 2 for 4 at bat.
Junior Justyn Francona (New Brighton) took the mound for Beaver today and picked up the loss after he pitched a complete game and gave up 10 hits and three runs against the 35 batters he faced.
Beaver finished the 2018-2019 season with a 12-17 overall record and is 4-11 in the conference.
