Eight Student-Athletes earn post season honors
Softball and Baseball both have players earning PSUAC and USCAA honors both athletically and academically.
Monaca, PA – Eight Penn State Beaver spring sport athletes receive post season honors.
After a tough spring (5-15) for the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions softball team, three players were named to the PSUAC All-Conference team for their efforts on the field this season.
Being named Second Team All-Conference were sophomores, Miranda Robson (Rochester, PA/Rochester) and Taylor Larson (Beaver, PA/Beaver). Robson lead the Lady Lions in at bats with 73 and runs with 28 while hitting .384 including 11 stolen bases and 8 RBI’s. Larson hit an impressive .414 in 58 at bats scoring 21 runs and producing 12 RBI’s. Being named Honorable Mention was freshman, Jenna Petrucci (New Castle, PA/Shenango) who lead the team with a .448 batting average in just 58 at bats. She was also the team leader in home runs with 3 on the year and produced a team leading 20 RBI’s as well.
The Penn State Beaver Baseball team saw success this season as well, as they finished 14-14 overall and 12-9 in the PSUAC. Being named to the PSUAC Second Team All-Conference were a pair of freshman from Beaver High School, Matt Rose (Beaver, PA/Beaver) and Austin Logan (Beaver, PA/Beaver). Logan lead the team in at bats (84), runs (19), hits (30) and RBI’s (17) while hitting .357 on the year. Rose had 71 at bats, 25 hits and 13 RBI’s while hitting .352 on the season. Making PSUAC Honorable Mention was junior transfer, Tyler Thellman (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) who in 70 at bats hit .257 with 18 hits and 11 RBI’s.
The Softball and Baseball teams each had one player receive USCAA All-American honors this season as well. Being named USCAA All-American Honorable Mention were Miranda Robson and senior, Grant Scott (Sewickley, PA/Ann Arbor Pioneer). Scott hit .370 this season with 1 home run and 10 RBI’s in just 54 at bats. He also lead the team in put outs with 117 and had a fielding percentage of .983 making just 2 errors all year.
Finally, being named to the USCAA All-Academic Team was sophomore baseball player, Fran O’Connor (Freedom, PA/Freedom). To earn this high honor, student athletes must maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher throughout the year while also competing in their respective sport.
