Beaver Knocks off Pitt-Bradford

Monaca, PA - The Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions baseball team bumped its record to 3-3 after defeating the Panthers of the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford, 8-6, on Wednesday, March 24.
Senior Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School, Sewickley, PA) set the tone in the first inning when he pitched a no-hitter and struck out three batters.
In the fourth inning, Beaver took off with a single by freshman Vinnie Beatty (Rochester High School, Rochester, PA), and freshman Alex Filippi (Center High School, Monaca, PA) earned a single of his own.
With two outs and a score of 6-6, freshman Markus Allen (Union Area High School, New Castle, PA) stepped up to the plate to earn one of his four RBIs that gave Beaver the lead.
Frederick and freshman Tom Lewis (Hopewell High School, Hopewell, PA) each had singles and one RBI, and freshman Cory Wagner (Center High School, Monaca, PA) had two doubles and two RBIs. Senior Joe Scherer (Quaker Valley High School, Sewickley, PA) also contributed two singles. The winning pitcher was Lewis who pitched three innings, had two strike-outs, and one BB.
At noon, Saturday, March 27, Beaver will host Jamestown Community College (Jamestown, NY) in a non-conference game.
