Beaver Splits With Jamestown

Monaca, PA - On Saturday, March 27 the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions baseball team split a doubleheader with Jamestown (NY) Community College, winning the first game 8-6 but losing the second 7-4.
In the first game, Beaver was down 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning. In the seventh inning, Beaver held Jamestown scoreless, and freshman Cory Wagner (Center High School, Monaca, PA) ended the game with a three-run walk-off home run, bringing in seniors Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School, Fair Oaks, PA) and Ryan Raraigh (Riverside High School, Fombell, PA).
The game's winning pitcher was Frederick who is now 3-0 in pitching for the season.
In game two, the Lions turned a 4-1 deficit into a tie ball game in the sixth inning. Freshman Vinnie Beatty (Rochester High School, Rochester, PA) hit a single that brought in freshman Tom Lewis (Hopewell High School, Hopewell, PA). Senior Joe Scherer (Quaker Valley High School, Sewickley, PA) hit a double, sending Beatty to third, and freshman Markus Allen (Uniontown High School, New Castle, PA) hit a double, bringing in Beatty and Scherer to tie the game 4-4.
However, the Lions gave up three runs in the seventh inning and lost the game.
Scherer and Raraigh each had two hits, and Allen had three hits along with 2 RBIs. Beaver is now 4-4 overall and will begin conference play next week.
On Sunday, March 28 the Nittany Lions travel to Erie to take on the Golden Knights of Gannon University at 1:00 p.m.
