Lions Take Two From Penn State Hazleton

Drifton, PA - On Friday, April 23, the Penn State Beaver baseball team moved to 12-4 in the PSUAC after two wins over Penn State Hazleton, 14-13 and 15-2.
In the first game, Hazleton jumped ahead 6-0 in the bottom of the first inning. However, Beaver scored 7 runs in the top of the fourth and after Hazelton scored another run in the bottom of the fourth, the score was tied at 7-7.
In the fifth inning, Beaver shut out Hazleton by scoring 5 runs and scored 2 more in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, Hazleton fired back with a 6-run rally to cut Beaver's advantage to 14-13. In the seventh inning, neither team got on the board, and Beaver took the win.
For the game, freshman Markus Allen (Union High School, New Castle, PA) had 5 RBIs, and senior Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School, Fair Oaks, PA) had 3 hits, 2 of which were homeruns. Freshman Alex Filippi (Center High School, Aliquippa, PA) had 3 runs and 2 stolen bases.
In game two, the score was tied 2-2 after the second inning, but afterward, Beaver held Hazleton scoreless. A combined 13 runs in the next 3 innings ended the game after 5 innings, and Beaver earned the win.
Freshman Brandon Alexander (South Side High School, Hookstown, PA) was the winning pitcher. He pitched all 5 innings, had 6 strikeouts, no earned runs, and one BB.
At bat, freshman Cory Wagner (Center High School, Aliquippa, PA) drove in 3 RBIs, and Filippi had 2 more hits and 2 more stolen bases for Beaver.
The team is now 16-11 overall and returns at noon, Saturday, April 24 when they travel to take on Penn State Worthington Scranton for the last regular PSUAC game of the season.
