Lions Lose Two to Penn College

On Sunday, Sept. 28 the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions baseball team lost a conference doubleheader, 11-4 and 18-8, when they hosted Penn College.
In game one, Penn College scored one run in the top of the second and two in the top of the third. Beaver answered with a run in the bottom of the third, bringing the score to 3-1. Penn College scored another run in the fourth inning and Beaver scored two. Penn College added two more in the top of the fifth and Beaver added one in the bottom of the fifth for a score of 10-4. Penn College scored their final run in the seventh inning.
Defensively, Beaver junior Joe Scherer (Sewickley, PA) pitched five plus innings and struck out four. He led the team offensively with two hits and one RBI. Sophomore Huston Lorenzo (Miami, FL) ended the game with a triple while junior Justin Parasida (Ambridge, PA) and freshman Jon Minnocci (Ellwood City, PA) each hit a double in the game.
In the second game, Beaver scored first in the bottom of the first. Penn College had a run in the top of the second and six runs in the top of the third. Beaver had four runs in the bottom of the third for a score of 7-5. Penn College and Beaver each added two runs in the top and bottom of the fourth. Penn College had five runs in the top of the fifth, allowing Beaver only one run in the bottom of the fifth, bringing the score to 14-8. Penn College added two more runs in the top of the sixth and the seventh, held Beaver back from scoring again, and took the win.
Scherer led the Lions in offense with three hits while Lorenzo had two. Junior Ryan Raraigh (Riverside, PA) ended the game with two hits and three RBIs. Minnocci had one hit with two RBIs and Parasida had three hits, including two doubles.
Beaver is 7-5 in the PSUAC and 7-5 overall. The Nittany Lions will travel to Penn State New Kensington for their next conference game on Sunday, Oct. 5. (Time to be announced.)
