Monaca, PA- The Penn State Beaver Baseball team split a doubleheader with conference foe Penn State Greater Allegheny.
In game one, junior pitcher Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley/Fair Oaks, PA) was the story. Frederick pitched seven scoreless innings, a complete game, giving up one hit and striking out sixteen. Freshman Dan Sonsini (Aliquippa/ Aliquippa, PA) scored the only run Beaver would need in the second inning. After reaching base with a hit, Sonsini stole second and third, before scoring on a pass ball. Junior Ryan Raraigh (Riverside/Fombell, PA) added an insurance run in the third. After reaching on a hit, he scored later in the inning on an error off a bunt.
In game two, Beaver pounded out ten hits, but could not string any together. Greater Alleghney scored three in the second, one in the fourth and two in the fifth to build a 6-0 lead.
