Media, PA - On Sunday, April 26 the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions traveled to Penn State Brandywine where they split a doubleheader, losing 7-1 in the first game and taking the win at 5-0 in the second.
In game one, Beaver capped off the top of the first inning by scoring on a sac fly by sophomore Huston Lorenzo (South West High School, Miami, FL). Brandywine had no runs in the bottom of the first.
However, after the first inning, Beaver couldn't score again against Brandywine's pitcher. Brandywine scored three runs in the bottom of the second, one in the bottom of the third, and three in the bottom of the fourth to take the win.
Freshman Dan Sonsini (Aliquippa High School, Aliquippa, PA) led Beaver with a triple that started off the game. Junior Joe Scherer pitched five innings and struck out seven.
In game two, Beaver scored the first two runs of the inning. Neither team scored in the second and third innings but Beaver struck again in the top of the fourth when freshman Matt LaValle (Center Area High School, Monaca, PA) blasted a hit for a double and was driven in by Sonsini's second triple of the day. Sonsini scored on a wild pitch to give Beaver the lead, 4-0.
Beaver added one more run in the top of the fifth when junior Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School, Sewickley, PA) singled and was driven home by junior Justin Parasida's (Ambridge High School, Ambridge, PA) double. Beaver shut out Brandywine for the win.
The Lions will wait for their playoff spot to be announced. Playoffs will be held at Medlar Field at Penn State University Park.
