Lions Lose to Manhattanville College
The Beaver Nittany Lions baseball team lost its spring season opener when they fell to Manhattanville College, 18-7, on Monday, March 10 in an evening game in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Walks and four errors hurt Beaver early in the game as Manhattanville scored eight runs in the first two innings. Though their defense was sloppy, the Lions brought out the bats and tried to slug their way back into the game, but Manhattanville added runs in every inning except the fifth.
Offensively, Beaver had five players collect two or more hits. Seniors Pat Ringel (Sto Rox High School) and Jeff Trojan (Rochester High School) each had three hits while freshman Huston Lorenzo (Miami, FL) and sophomores Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School) and Ryan Raraigh (Riverside High School) each had two. Lorenzo, Frederick, and Trojan each doubled in the loss while the losing pitcher Ronnie Willkins (South Side High School) had a triple.
Beaver returns to action on Tuesday, March 11 when they take on Philadelphia's Chestnut Hill College in a doubleheader in Fort Pierce, Florida. Game times are noon and 7:30 p.m.
