Beaver Releases 2015-16 Varsity Sports Schedules
Monaca, PA -- Beaver Athletics officially announces their varsity sports schedules for the 2015 - 2016 seasons.
This fall, the women's volleyball team, who is coming off a 12-5 conference season, is looking to make their third consecutive PSUAC Elite 8 appearance after falling to Greater Allegheny last season. They kick off this season hosting the USCAA Tip-Off Tournament and then play host to the first ever PSUAC/WPCC Challenge featuring two other PSUAC schools as well as Penn Highlands Community College, Westmoreland County Community College and the Community College of Beaver County.
Women's Soccer, who continues to build their program, is looking to show dramatic improvment this season with the addition of several freshman standout recruits.
After falling the in the PSUAC Final Four game against Brandywine last October, the Men's Soccer team plans to improve on their 7-3 PSUAC record this season and make a push to get back to the championship game like they did in the 2013 season. Out of conference they will face some powerful USCAA opponents including WVU Tech.
Moving into the winter season, the Men's and Women's basketball teams will kick off their seasons with the annual Alumni Game on October 24th. The Lady Lions, coming off a 14-2 PSUAC record, are looking to defend not only their PSUAC Championship against Penn State Hazleton but also their USCAA National Championship. They will also face some new non-conference opponents including Westminster and Kent State Tuscarawas.
Men's Basketball, after undergoing a late coaching change, made it all the way to the PSUAC Championship game where they fell to Penn State York. In 2015-16 they are looking to not only capture the PSUAC championship but to make it back to the USCAA Division II National Tournament.
Rounding out the winter sports season is wrestling who will see a new direction in the program under new head coach, Carl Yanek. Yanek, with more than 20 years of coaching experience will look to not only grow the program, but to develop top quality wrestlers and become a contender in the PSUAC.
This spring Softball plans to return to the top of the PSUAC after a tough season in 2015. Going just 6-12 in the conference last year, the Lady Lions look to climb the PSUAC ranks and return not only to the Final Four, but back to their 2013 Championship form. They will also be facing some tough USCAA opponents as well in Carlow and SSCC.
Beaver Baseball, after finishing 13-6 in the PSUAC last season, fell to Greater Allegheny in the PSUAC title game and qualified for the USCAA Tournament. This spring they look not only to return to the PSUAC Championship, but to capture that title and return for the second consecutive year to the USCAA Tournament.
