Women's Basketball Welcomes New Assistant Coach
"I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining Coach Moore and the winning tradition he has built at Penn State Beaver," Kurzawski said. "The opportunity to work for a national championship winning program and a national coach of the year (in Coach Moore) was an opportunity that I couldn't pass up."
Coach Kurzawski spent the last 2 seasons at NAIA and USCAA Division 1 Carlow University in Pittsburgh, PA where he served as first assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Under his first recruiting class Carlow achieved its most successful season in over 10 years setting the school's record for most NAIA Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference wins and qualifying for the USCAA Division 1 National Championship Tournament.
"I've had the opportunity to coach and recruit against Coach Kurzawski over the past 2 years and he is a person who genuinely cares about the student athletes and will go the extra mile for them on and off the court," Coach Moore said. "Andrew has also done an amazing job from a recruiting standpoint at Carlow bringing in All State caliber players which is a major reason why Carlow is now a contender at the USCAA D1 level. He also has an extensive background in player development and strength and conditioning (including working with professional athletes) which we will be utilizing here at Beaver to take our team to the next level."
During the offseason Kurzawski works as a strength and performance trainer at D1 Pittsburgh where he has trained numerous NCAA Division 1 athletes as well as athletes training for various combines and professional careers on the European basketball sector.
Kurzawski was a standout player at Carlynton high school in Carnegie, PA where he started 4 years on the varsity team and was a multiple time selection to the district's fabulous15 team. He was also a member of the prestigious Pittsburgh JOTS AAU team and received multiple NCAA Division II scholarship offers to play college basketball. He graduated from St. John's University (Queens, NY) in 2007 with a degree in pre-law (philosophy) and completed a Master's of Divinity degree from St. Vincent College and Seminary in 2012.
