Beaver prevails in tough road game against Butler County Community College

Butler, Pa. -- The Lady Lions hit the road Wednesday evening, to face off against Butler County Community College in the second of two back-to-back road games this week. This is the second time the two teams will play each other this season, the first of which Beaver won by 3-0. Beaver comes into the game after losing to Penn State Fayette Tuesday night. Beaver sits at 7-6 overall for the regular season.
The teams both played tough and kept the game close in the first set. However, Bulter managed to pull away and defeated Beaver (22-25) in the first set. In the second set, the Lady Lions got hot on offense and outscored Butler 25-17. But Bulter retaliated offensively in the third set and put pressure on Beaver's defenders. Beaver lost the third set 19-25. Determined and driven to force a fifth set, Beaver fought back in a close fourth set and went on to win by a hair, 25-23. After making a huge comeback in this close game, Beaver's offense struck hard and outscored Butler 15-7 in the final set, tacking on a 3-2 road-win for Beaver.
Brooke Tomasko and Stephanie Stadjudar both lead the offense with 12 kills each. Alexis Albrecht had a great defensive performance, dropping 18 digs in the game. Emily Keener put up big numbers tonight, with 33 assists, 15 digs, and 2 blocks.
With tonight's win against Butler County Community College, Beaver improves its season record to 8-6 overall.
The Lady Lions will travel to Penn State Fayette on Saturday, Sept. 29, where they are scheduled to play in three matches as part of the PSUAC Crossover Weekend. Beaver will play its first match against conference rival Penn State York. Game time is set at 2:30 p.m.
