Monaca, PA -- The Beaver girls faced off against Butler County Community College on Wednesday night for what turned out to be one of the most intense games the Beaver girls have played all year. Beaver comes into this game with a record of 3-3, looking very impressive at times while also looking just as unorganized at others. This inconsistency has been a problem for Beaver against tough opponents this year and tonight they looked to overcome this inconsistency and play hard against a good team in BCCC.
The first set started off as a neck and neck battle right off the bat. BCCC pulled out to a slight lead early and every time they seemed to have the momentum to pull away Beaver would come out hard, killing whatever they had going and taking it for themselves. The Beaver girls pushed as hard as they could in the first set but BCCC played outstanding, taking this one by a score of 25-22.
Beaver came out in the second set just as they did in the first, playing hard against an evenly matched team. They had to battle early in the set but they finally pulled ahead with a lead about halfway through and they fought hard to keep it. BCCC finally folded in this set as Beaver walked away with the win by the score of 25-21.
Just like the first two sets, the third started as an all out battle, with both teams refusing to give up a single point. As the set went on the two went back and forth and for a while Beaver looked like they might take this set, but a late set push by BCCC gave them the lead that they ran with as they won the set 25-22.
Beaver started the fourth set down 2-1, and knowing they were one set from losing this match really seemed to push Beaver a little extra. Beaver started off this one playing as hard as they had all game, fighting hard for every point they could get. However, BCCC's great play from the service line gave them the edge in this one, as they took this final set by a score of 25-19.
Losing this game, Beaver now drops to a 3-4 record on the year, losing what seemed to be their toughest game yet. BCCC came out ready to play in this one as they matched up very well against Beaver. Even with the loss, Beaver's Sophomore Morgan Cannister, who had 12 kills and 11 digs, and Fresman Amanda Mike, who racked 10 kills, both played well. Beaver will return to action this Friday to take on CCBC at home at 4pm.
