Beaver Starts PSUAC Season 1-0, Defeats 7 Time PSUAC Champ Penn State Fayette 3-2
The Lady Lions defeated the Roaring Lions of Fayette 3-2 to open up PSUAC Play.
Monaca, PA- The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions opened up PSUAC play on Tuesday night, and it was an exciting match! Taking on seven time PSUAC champions Penn State Fayette was a tough draw to open the season with.
In the first set, Beaver jumped out to a 9-3 lead. Fayette roared back, taking set one 13-25. Set two was all Beaver, taking set two by the same score, 25-13. Sets 3 and 4 were see saw battles, with Beaver taking set 3 by the score of 25-22 and with Fayette returning the favor, winning set 4, 22-25.
This set up a very exciting set five. Beaver jumped on Fayette early once again, taking a 7-3 lead; once again only to have Fayette roar back and take a 7-8 lead at the midpoint. Beaver made one final push, and down went the champs, by a score of 15-13 in set 5.
Freshman, Morgan Cannister (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) and sophomore, Jenna Petrucci (New Castle, PA/Shenango) led the offense with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Cannister and Roxy Kie (Laguna, NM/Laguna Acoma) led the defense with over 20 digs in the match.
Beaver now sits at 1-0 in the PSUAC and 4-4 overall. The Lady Lions will return to action on Thursday, September 10th, when they travel to Ohio Eastern. They then return home and to PSUAC action on Sunday, September 13th, when they host Penn State DuBois for a double header. Game time is 1 p.m.
