Penn State Beaver beats Penn State New Kensington 3-2
Lady Lions pick up second conference win.
New Kensington, PA--- Penn State Beaver wins a tough conference game against Penn State New Kensington 3-2.
In their second conference road game of the year, Beaver got off to a slow start in the first set of the night. Falling behind early, Beaver had to constantly battle to stay in the game. At best they could even the score, which they did a few times, but they could never gain an edge and fell 25-22. In their second set they picked up the pace and made the necessary adjustments to get their offense firing. Both Natalie Gamble (McKees Rocks, PA/Sto-Rox) and Ryanne "Roxy" Kie (Laguna, NM/Laguna Acoma) tallied 3 kills in the set. In combination with tough serving, Beaver edged out New Kensington 25-19. Beaver kept the offense firing on all cylinders in the thrid set with Gamble adding seven kills to her total on the night, as she helped lead her team to a 25-18 win.
The fourth set saw a change in momentum as New Kensington again jumped out to an early lead, Beaver quickly answered, but let New Kensington claw their way back in and ultimately steal the set 25-21. With the match tied at 2-2, Beaver saw their first deciding set of the young season. With a fire in their bellies, Beaver refused to lose and cruised to a 15-5 victory led by sophomore Gabriella Disla (San Juan, PR/La Piedad) who was a force to be reconned with from the service line as she tallied 3 aces before the teams switched sides.
Coach Bertges said "Our girls showed they wanted it more, that was the best heart they've had all season."
Beaver is now 2-0 in the conference, and continues conference play on September 18th at Penn State Fayette at 7 p.m.
