Lady Lions Drop Friday Opener, Advance to Second Round on Saturday
Monaca, PA - On Friday, Aug. 27, the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions volleyball team opened its 2010 campaign when they hosted Ohio State University-Marion's Scarlet Wave in the first round of the USCAA/Penn State Beaver Pre-Season Tournament.
In game one, Beaver looked strong and took a 6-1 lead, but Ohio State outscored Beaver, 25-12, and took the set, 25-18. Ohio State also won the second set, 25-14. In game 3, the Scarlet Wave took a big lead before Beaver senior Heather Sandusky (New Brighton High School, New Brighton, PA) rattled off 6 points to pull within 22-18, but Beaver lost the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-0.
In the loss, Sandusky led Beaver in kills, and sophomore Kellie Karasack (Seneca Valley High School, Cranberry Township, PA) had 5. Karasac led Beaver with 14 assists, and Sandusky recorded 7 digs
The Lady Lions return to action at noon, Saturday, Aug. 28 when they host PSUAC opponent PA College of Technology in the second round. OSU-Marion advances to the championship game at 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28.
