Beaver Volleyball Drops Pre-Season Opener

Monaca, PA - On Friday, Aug. 28 the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions volleyball team opened their 2009 season when they hosted the Scarlet Wave of Ohio State University-Marion in the pre-season USCAA Volleyball Tournament. Beaver won the first game, 25-20, but lost the remaining three games, 25-11, 25-17, and 25-19.
In game one, OSU-Marion took the first lead but the Lady Lions came back with a 7-point run to take a 16-13 lead, followed by another 4-point run to build a 19-14 lead. Beaver won the game, 25-20, on a powerful kill by junior Heather Sandusky (New Brighton High School, New Brighton, PA) assisted by senior Jen Hain (Northgate High School, Pittsburgh, PA)
However, Beaver lost games two and three, 25-11 and 25-17.
In game four, Beaver kept pace but OSU-Marion pulled ahead, 19-10. Beaver freshman Daina Owens (Farrell High School, Farrell, PA) had a kill, but Marion won the game, 25-19.
In the losses, Beaver was led by Sandusky with 15 kills and Hain with 25 assists. Sophomore Katie Landis (Rochester High School, Rochester, PA) had 27 digs.
Beaver is 0-1 and will continue the tournament when they host the Wildcats of Penn College (Williamsport, PA) at noon, Saturday, Aug. 29.
