Hot Start to Conference Play as Beaver takes Down Shenango
Sharon, PA - The Women's Basketball team is off to a hot start in conference play this year after a rough overall start with their tough non-conference schedule. The team now sits 3-0 in conference play for the PSUAC after defeating Penn State Shenango with a 80-67 score. Beaver outsocred their opponent in every quarter except for the fourth where it was far to late for Shenango to make their comeback. Leading 39-29 at the half, Beaver kept their foot on the gas and finised 13 points ahead of Shenango. Both teams were 2-0 in conference going into this game giving Beaver the opportunity to prove to themselves and everyone around them just how tough their non-conference schedule truly was.
Beaver was able to have such a high scoring game due to the fact that 4 players scored over 10 points each with the lowest scorer having 4. Leading the team for Beaver was 2nd-year, Makitah Logan (Pittsburgh, PA) who scored 26 points, had 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Next was 1st-year, Claudia Siegfried (Wilkes-Barre, PA) who scored 16 points after coming off the bench, had 1 rebond, and 4 steals. Scoring 11 points each were two 1st-year players, Taylor Woodruff (Pittsburgh, PA) and Emery Black (New Braunfels, TX). Woodruff had 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 steals as well. Black had 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals in her stats line. The team went 76% from the free-throw line which was 19-25 with Siegfried going 6-6 from the line.
The team is now 3-6 overall with a perfect 3-0 PSUAC Conference record. Winning their first game on the road this season against Penn State Shenango is a good indication of what is to come for the Lions this season. The Women's Basketball team's next game is on Friday, December 1st at 6pm when they hit road to take on Penn State York! Wish them luck as they take their first cross-over trip of the season!
